The ACL Race Series Main Bearing Set for BMW’s N63 and S63 engines is made for serious power—the kind that pushes past factory limits and stays there. When twin turbos build boost, heat rises, and the crankshaft spins hard lap after lap, stock bearings can lose their edge. ACL’s Race Series bearings are built for that exact moment—where pressure, precision, and oil control decide how long your engine will keep fighting.
Each bearing uses ACL’s proven tri-metal design: a hardened steel backing for structural rigidity, a copper-lead layer for strength under load, and a precision overlay that keeps the oil film stable even when temperatures soar. That balance keeps friction in check, oil pressure steady, and crank journals protected, no matter how hard your N63 or S63 is pushed.
ACL’s Race Series material has earned its place in high-performance and motorsport builds worldwide. It’s made to resist fatigue, hold consistent clearances, and deliver reliable oil control at high RPM. The result is a smoother, stronger bottom end that stays composed under boost, load, and heat—right where lesser bearings start to fail.
Installation is clean and direct. These bearings are engineered as a perfect OEM-fit replacement for BMW’s twin-turbo V8s found in models like the 550i, 650i, 750i, M5, M6, X5 M, and X6 M. No machining, no hassle—just precise factory geometry paired with race-grade strength.
If you’re building a tuned street car, chasing consistent track performance, or simply protecting a high-output V8 from wear, ACL Race Series bearings are the upgrade that keeps it all together. They reinforce your engine’s foundation, stabilize oil control, and deliver the confidence to run hard, every time you hit boost.
FEATURES
- High-strength overlay plate: Uses a reduced-thickness overlay for enhanced fatigue resistance, helping the bearings withstand the extreme cylinder pressures and high-RPM loads of BMW’s twin-turbo V8 engines.
- Hardened steel backing: Provides superior structural support for the bearing lining and improves retention in the housing, ensuring stability under heavy torque and prolonged boost.
- Increased crush: Enhances bearing grip inside the housing, preventing movement and maintaining alignment under extreme load or temperature swings.
- No flash plating: The elimination of flash plating on the bearing’s back improves heat transfer and maximizes housing grip, promoting better thermal balance and reliability.
- Optimized eccentricity: Increased bearing eccentricity compensates for bore distortion at high RPM, supporting the formation of a strong hydrodynamic oil film that keeps lubrication consistent.
- ¾-grooved main bearings: Improve oil flow to the connecting rod bearings while maintaining the load-bearing surface area required for high-performance crankshaft support.
- Precision wall tolerances: Manufactured to extremely tight and consistent tolerances, ensuring accurate clearances and uniform oil pressure throughout the crankshaft.
- Enlarged ID chamfers: Designed to accommodate large crankshaft fillet radii found in forged or high-performance crankshafts, ensuring smooth rotation and proper oil flow under demanding conditions.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
