The ACL Race Series Main Bearing Set for BMW’s N13 engine is made for those who push their builds far beyond factory comfort zones. Once boost pressure climbs, oil temperatures rise, and the engine lives near redline, standard bearings can quickly start to fall behind. ACL’s Race Series bearings are built for that kind of punishment—handling high load, heat, and sustained RPMs with precision and confidence.
Each bearing uses ACL’s signature tri-metal design: a hardened steel backing for strength, a copper-lead layer for superior load support, and a precision overlay that holds a stable oil film under pressure. This layered construction reduces friction, keeps oil flowing consistently, and protects your crankshaft and rods through hard pulls, heat cycles, and high-speed runs.
The Race Series material is the same proven formula used in competition engines worldwide. It offers outstanding fatigue resistance, precise clearances, and dependable oil control—traits that matter when your engine’s running higher boost or aggressive timing. With these bearings installed, you’ll maintain steady oil pressure and temperature balance, even under relentless driving.
Installation is simple and accurate. ACL designed this bearing set as a direct-fit replacement for the BMW N13 engine—no machining or adjustments required. The fitment matches OEM geometry perfectly, giving you a factory-precise install with race-grade performance built in.
For drivers running a tuned 116i, 118i, or MINI Cooper S powered by the N13, ACL Race Series bearings are a must-have upgrade. They reinforce the heart of your engine, keeping it cool, smooth, and stable through every gear change and full-throttle pull. It’s the kind of quiet reliability that lets you drive harder—without looking back.
FEATURES
- High-performance design: ACL Race Series bearings provide a tougher, longer-lasting upgrade over BMW’s standard main bearings—perfect for tuned or track-driven N13 engines that demand consistent performance under pressure.
- Engineered for BMW precision: Developed to resolve common bearing wear and oil pressure inconsistencies seen in turbocharged N13 engines, ensuring smooth lubrication and reliability during hard driving.
- Factory-clearance accuracy: Manufactured to BMW’s strict OEM tolerances, maintaining proper oil film thickness and stable crankshaft rotation even under heavy load or prolonged high RPM.
- Tri-metal race construction: Features ACL’s proven combination of a hardened steel backing, copper-lead intermediate layer, and precision overlay, delivering exceptional fatigue strength and thermal stability.
- Optimized bearing surface: A non-tin flash finish enhances bearing-to-housing contact, reducing the risk of deformation or oil film breakdown under high boost and extreme heat.
- Track-proven performance: Tested in both tuned street and competitive racing N13 applications, these bearings offer consistent protection and stability for high-output builds that see real-world abuse.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
