The ACL Race Series Main Bearing Set for BMW’s B58 engine is built for those who push their cars hard and expect the engine to hold up. The B58 is already a powerhouse, but once boost rises and temperatures climb, factory bearings can reach their limits. ACL’s Race Series bearings are made for that exact moment—when high load, heat, and oil pressure fluctuations demand more than stock components can deliver.
Each bearing features ACL’s proven tri-metal design: a hardened steel backing for rigidity, a copper-lead intermediate layer for strength, and a precision overlay that maintains a stable oil film even under extreme conditions. This structure keeps friction down, protects the crankshaft, and ensures smooth operation at high RPMs and sustained boost.
Built using materials trusted in motorsport, these bearings offer superior fatigue resistance, excellent embeddability, and consistent oil pressure across the rev range. That means better protection, tighter clearances, and long-term reliability for tuned or track-driven engines.
Installation is simple and precise. ACL designed these bearings as a direct-fit replacement for the BMW B58 engine—no machining, no modification, just a perfect OEM fit paired with race-grade strength. Compatible with models such as the M240i, M340i, M440i, and Z4 M40i, they bring peace of mind to any high-performance setup.
For enthusiasts who drive their BMWs like they were meant to be driven, ACL Race Series bearings are the hidden upgrade that keeps everything together. Strong, stable, and built to last, they help your B58 stay cool, balanced, and ready for the next pull—on the street, strip, or circuit.
FEATURES
- High-strength overlay design: Developed for the turbocharged B58’s high cylinder pressures, the ACL Race Series main bearings feature a reduced-thickness overlay plate that improves fatigue strength under extreme boost and RPM conditions.
- Hardened steel backing: Each bearing shell includes a hardened steel backing to provide extra support for the bearing lining—essential for maintaining housing stability under the heavy torque loads typical of tuned B58 engines.
- Enhanced crush retention: Designed with increased crush to keep the bearings securely seated in the block, even during rapid thermal cycling or extended high-RPM operation.
- Improved heat transfer: By eliminating flash plating on the bearing backs, ACL ensures better thermal conductivity, helping the B58 maintain consistent oil temperatures and prevent localized hotspots.
- Optimized eccentricity: The bearing profiles are engineered with greater eccentricity to offset bore distortion at high engine speeds, supporting stable oil film formation and smooth crank rotation.
- 3/4 grooved main bearings: This configuration balances oil delivery and bearing surface area, ensuring consistent lubrication and pressure to the connecting rod bearings—vital for performance under sustained boost.
- Tight wall tolerances: Manufactured with strict dimensional precision, allowing consistent oil clearances and maintaining reliable lubrication throughout the B58’s rev range.
- Large chamfer clearances: Enlarged ID chamfers accommodate the generous fillet radii found on performance crankshafts, ensuring proper fitment for built or forged B58 bottom ends.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
