The ACL Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set for BMW’s S50B30 engine is built for people who don’t stop at factory limits. The 3.0-liter straight-six loves to rev, but once you add power, raise compression, or stretch your sessions on track, the stock bearings can start to show weakness. ACL’s Race Series bearings are designed for exactly that—when heat, load, and precision all matter at once.
Each bearing uses ACL’s proven tri-metal construction: a hardened steel backing for strength, a copper-lead intermediate layer for load capacity, and a precision overlay that holds a steady oil film under extreme stress. That balance keeps friction low and oil pressure stable, protecting your crank and rods through every pull, corner, and full-throttle surge.
Developed using materials trusted in motorsport engines worldwide, the Race Series bearings offer excellent fatigue resistance, consistent clearances, and reliable oil control. They’re built to handle sustained high RPM, tuned boost levels, and the brutal thermal cycles that come with serious driving. The result is smooth operation, longer bearing life, and confidence when your S50B30 is running hard.
Installation is simple. These bearings drop in as a direct-fit replacement for BMW’s S50B30 engine found in the E36 M3—no machining or modification required. You get perfect factory geometry with the added durability of race-proven design.
For E36 M3 owners chasing both performance and dependability, ACL Race Series bearings are the upgrade that keeps the S50 spinning strong. They strengthen the bottom end, maintaining balance, temperature control, and reliability every time you hit redline.
FEATURES
- High-performance upgrade: ACL Race Series bearings deliver a stronger, more durable solution than BMW’s original components—engineered to withstand the heat, load, and RPM of the high-revving S50B30 found in the E36 M3.
- Precision-engineered for BMW performance: Specifically developed to address bearing wear and oil pressure fluctuations common in performance BMW engines, maintaining smooth and consistent lubrication across the entire rev range.
- Factory-level precision: Produced to exact BMW tolerances, ensuring correct clearances, reliable oil pressure, and long-term bearing stability even under demanding conditions.
- Race-proven tri-metal construction: Built with a hardened steel backing, copper-lead core, and precision overlay that together provide exceptional fatigue strength, oil film stability, and thermal control.
- Optimized bearing contact: The non-tin flash finish enhances bearing-to-housing fitment, preventing deformation and improving strength during extended high-load operation.
- Built for endurance and confidence: Proven through motorsport and high-performance applications, these bearings keep your S50 running strong and protected—on the road, on the dyno, or at full throttle on track.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
