The ACL Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set for BMW N54 and N55 engines is built for performance that doesn’t back down. When boost climbs, heat builds, and you keep your foot planted longer than the factory ever expected, stock bearings can become the weak link. ACL’s Race Series bearings are engineered to prevent that — giving your engine the strength and stability it needs under serious power and load.
Each bearing features tri-metal construction: a hardened steel backing for strength, a copper-lead layer for high load capacity, and a precision overlay that keeps a consistent oil film, even at elevated temperatures. This construction minimizes friction and maintains reliable oil pressure across the crank journals, helping your rods and crank stay protected through every pull, gear change, and heat cycle.
ACL’s Race Series material has earned its reputation in motorsport engines worldwide. It resists fatigue and wear under extreme stress, while maintaining smooth oil control and consistent clearances. That means reliable lubrication at high RPM, strong resistance to scoring, and the confidence that your bottom end will hold together under sustained boost or track use.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for BMW’s N54 and N55 twin-turbo inline-six engines — found in models like the 335i, 135i, 235i, 535i, and M2 — these bearings fit precisely, with no need for machining or modification. The geometry matches OEM specifications, so you get factory precision with race-grade durability.
For anyone running a tuned or high-output N54 or N55 build, these bearings are more than an upgrade — they’re insurance. They strengthen your rotating assembly, stabilize oil pressure, and protect your engine when you’re chasing more power, more boost, and more time at redline. It’s the kind of upgrade you only appreciate once you’ve pushed hard enough to need it.
FEATURES
- Performance-engineered design: ACL Race Series bearings deliver a significant upgrade over BMW’s standard rod bearings, built to handle the demanding loads of turbocharged N54 and N55 engines.
- Optimized for twin and single-turbo setups: Specifically designed to withstand the increased cylinder pressures, heat, and RPMs produced by tuned and high-boost BMW inline-six engines.
- Precision factory tolerances: Manufactured to match OEM specifications for exact clearances, maintaining proper oil film thickness and consistent lubrication under extreme stress.
- Advanced tri-metal construction: Combines a hardened steel backing, copper-lead intermediate layer, and precision overlay for exceptional durability and fatigue resistance.
- Improved contact stability: The non-tin flash surface enhances bearing-to-housing fitment, preventing distortion and maintaining reliability at sustained high temperatures.
- Proven under track and street conditions: Trusted by performance builders worldwide, these bearings offer the strength and consistency needed for tuned, track, and endurance N54/N55 builds.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
