The ACL Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set for BMW N13 engines is made for builds that live beyond factory limits. When boost climbs, temps rise, and RPMs stay high, standard bearings can lose their edge. ACL’s Race Series bearings are the upgrade that keeps things together when it matters most—built to handle the heat, load, and stress of tuned or track-driven engines without compromise.
Each bearing features tri-metal construction with a hardened steel backing for strength, a copper-lead layer for load capacity, and a precision overlay that maintains a steady oil film under pressure. This design keeps friction under control and oil flowing smoothly across the rod journals, giving your crank and rods the support they need for consistent, repeatable performance.
ACL’s Race Series material is engineered for durability and control. It’s proven to resist wear, fatigue, and scoring, even in engines running higher boost or sustained RPMs. The bearings maintain tight clearances and stable oil pressure throughout the rev range—something every builder values when reliability is on the line.
Built as a direct-fit replacement for the BMW N13 engine, installation is seamless. Each bearing matches OEM geometry precisely, ensuring a perfect fit with no extra machining or guesswork. It’s a plug-and-play upgrade that delivers real performance benefits where you can feel them.
For enthusiasts running a tuned 116i, 118i, or MINI Cooper S with the N13 engine, these bearings add the peace of mind that every performance build needs. They’re the quiet safeguard that strengthens your bottom end, keeping your engine cool, balanced, and ready for every hard pull or track session that comes next.
FEATURES
- High-performance design: ACL Race Series bearings offer a stronger, more reliable alternative to BMW’s factory rod bearings, ideal for tuned or track-driven N13 engines.
- Engineered for BMW precision: Addresses known bearing wear issues found in turbocharged N13 engines, maintaining stable oil pressure and long-term durability.
- Factory-clearance accuracy: Manufactured to strict OEM tolerances, ensuring proper oil film thickness and smooth crankshaft operation under high load.
- Tri-metal race construction: Built with a hardened steel backing, copper-lead intermediate layer, and precision overlay for superior strength and fatigue resistance
- Optimized bearing surface: The non-tin flash surface improves housing contact, reducing the risk of distortion or oil film collapse during extreme heat or boost conditions.
- Tested under race conditions: Proven to perform in tuned street and competition N13 applications, offering the stability and protection needed for high-output builds.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
