The ACL Race Series Main Bearing Set for BMW’s N54 and N55 engines is made for power builds that go well beyond factory expectations. Once boost climbs, oil temps spike, and revs stay high, the stock bearings can start to give up. ACL’s Race Series bearings step in right where they need to—offering the strength, stability, and confidence your twin-turbo straight-six deserves when it’s making serious power.
Each bearing is built using ACL’s trusted tri-metal formula: a hardened steel backing for rigidity, a copper-lead layer for load-bearing strength, and a precision overlay that keeps a steady oil film even when temperatures soar. That design controls friction and maintains stable oil pressure across every crank journal, keeping your bottom end smooth, cool, and protected through every pull and gear shift.
Proven in professional motorsport applications, ACL’s Race Series material delivers the kind of fatigue resistance and consistency that tuners and track drivers rely on. It holds clearances tight, resists wear under extreme load, and keeps oil control balanced—crucial when you’re pushing higher boost or running long sessions at redline.
Installation is clean and straightforward. These bearings are a direct-fit replacement for BMW’s N54 and N55 engines—no machining, no modifications, just perfect OEM geometry paired with race-grade durability.
If you’re running a tuned 335i, 135i, 535i, M2, or any other N54/N55-powered car that’s putting serious heat through its crank, these bearings are your safeguard. They reinforce the core of your engine, keeping it balanced and reliable through every hard launch, dyno pull, and full-throttle stretch. Once you’ve built an engine that lives on boost, ACL Race bearings aren’t just an upgrade—they’re a necessity.
FEATURES
- High-strength overlay plate: Designed with a reduced-thickness overlay to improve fatigue resistance and withstand the extreme loads of high-boost and high-RPM N54/N55 engines.
- Hardened steel backs: All main bearings feature hardened steel backing to enhance structural support, improve bearing retention, and maintain stability under heavy load.
- Increased crush: Provides a tighter fit in the housing for improved bearing retention, ensuring the shells stay firmly seated even under extreme cylinder pressure.
- No flash plating: Eliminating flash plating on the back of the bearings enhances heat transfer and maximizes grip between the bearing and its housing for better thermal management.
- Optimized eccentricity: Increased bearing eccentricity helps compensate for bore distortion at high RPM, aiding the formation of a strong, stable hydrodynamic oil film.
- ¾-grooved main bearings: Improves oil flow to connecting rod bearings while maintaining optimal load-carrying surface area for better crankshaft support.
- Consistent wall tolerances: Manufactured to extremely tight wall thickness tolerances for precise clearances and uniform oil pressure throughout the engine.
- Enlarged ID chamfers: Features enlarged internal chamfers where necessary to accommodate large crankshaft fillet radii found in high-performance and forged applications.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
