The ACL Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set for BMW’s S85 engine is made for those who expect perfection from their V10. The 5.0-liter S85 that powers the E60 M5 and E63/E64 M6 is one of BMW’s most iconic high-revving engines—but it’s also known for its sensitivity to oil pressure and bearing wear at high RPM. ACL’s Race Series bearings tackle that issue head-on, delivering the strength, precision, and confidence your S85 needs when it’s pushed to its limits.
Each bearing features ACL’s proven tri-metal construction: a hardened steel backing for rigidity, a copper-lead intermediate layer for load support, and a precision overlay that maintains a consistent oil film even under extreme heat and stress. This multi-layer design ensures stable lubrication, reduced friction, and maximum protection for your crankshaft and rods—whether it’s a long high-speed run, a day at the track, or a demanding street build.
The same materials trusted in professional motorsport engines form the foundation of these bearings. They deliver superior fatigue resistance, maintain tight oil clearances, and provide stable pressure through extended high-RPM use. The result? Cooler operation, smoother performance, and a bottom end you can rely on when every gear change counts.
Installation is simple and precise. ACL designed these bearings as a direct-fit replacement for the BMW S85 engine found in the E60 M5 and E63/E64 M6—no machining, no modification, just perfect OEM geometry backed by race-grade reliability.
For M5 and M6 owners who drive their cars the way BMW intended—fast, focused, and full of character—ACL Race Series bearings are a must-have upgrade. They reinforce the heart of the legendary S85, keeping it strong, smooth, and ready to sing past 8,000 RPM—lap after lap, pull after pull.
FEATURES
- High-performance upgrade: ACL Race Series bearings provide a stronger, longer-lasting replacement for BMW’s factory components—built to endure the extreme heat, load, and constant high-RPM demands of the S85 engine found in the E60 M5 and E63/E64 M6.
- Precision-engineered for BMW performance: Developed to address rod bearing wear and oil pressure fluctuations common in BMW’s high-revving V10, ensuring smooth, reliable lubrication across the entire powerband.
- Factory-grade precision: Manufactured to exact BMW tolerances, maintaining correct clearances, stable oil pressure, and dependable bearing life even under sustained load or extended track use.
- Race-proven tri-metal construction: Features a hardened steel backing, copper-lead core, and precision overlay for outstanding fatigue resistance, thermal stability, and consistent oil film retention at extreme temperatures.
- Optimized bearing-to-housing contact: The non-tin flash surface enhances fitment stability, reducing distortion and improving alignment under heavy stress and prolonged high-RPM operation.
- Built for endurance and confidence: Tested in motorsport and high-performance environments, these bearings strengthen the foundation of the S85—delivering the reliability, balance, and durability your V10 needs for spirited driving, track sessions, or extended high-speed runs.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
