The ACL Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set for BMW B58 engines is built for those who expect their engines to take punishment—and keep running smooth. When boost climbs and revs rise, factory bearings can start to show their limits. These ACL bearings are made to stop that from happening. They’re designed to handle the heat, pressure, and load that come with serious tuning and track-level performance.
Each bearing is crafted with tri-metal construction—a hardened steel backing for strength, a copper-lead layer for load support, and a precision overlay that maintains consistent oil film even under extreme pressure. That balance keeps friction low and oil control stable, helping your crank and rods stay cool and protected, lap after lap.
ACL’s Race Series material offers better embeddability and resistance to scoring or seizure, which means tighter clearances and reliable oil pressure across the full rev range. It’s a design proven in motorsport engines where reliability is everything and failure isn’t an option.
Built as a direct-fit replacement for the BMW B58 engine found in models like the M240i, M340i, and Z4 M40i, these bearings install cleanly without modification. Every dimension matches OEM geometry, so you get the strength of a performance upgrade with the precision of factory fitment.
For anyone building a high-output B58—tuned street car, track build, or endurance setup—ACL Race bearings are the quiet insurance policy that keeps your engine together when things get intense. Strong, consistent, and proven where it counts, they’re a must-have for any serious performance build.
FEATURES
- Performance-focused engineering: ACL Race Series bearings are precision-built to outperform BMW’s factory rod bearings, delivering stronger load resistance and smoother operation under pressure.
- BMW-specific design: Developed to address rod bearing wear issues common in high-output BMW B58 engines, ensuring reliable lubrication and consistent oil film stability.
- Precision fit and tolerance: Manufactured to exact factory dimensions, maintaining OEM clearances while improving bearing life and rotational stability.
- Advanced tri-metal construction: Features a hardened steel backing with copper-lead layering and a precision overlay for exceptional fatigue strength and durability.
- Superior contact and stability: A non-tin flash surface provides better bearing-to-housing contact, reducing the risk of distortion under extreme load or temperature.
- Built for demanding engines: Designed for tuned, track, and high-load B58 applications, offering proven reliability and endurance where factory components fall short.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
