The ACL Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set for BMW B46 and B48 engines is engineered for high-performance and tuned applications where precision and durability matter. These bearings are built to handle elevated cylinder pressures, increased RPM, and sustained load—conditions that quickly expose weaknesses in OEM components.
Each bearing uses tri-metal construction with hardened steel backing, a copper-lead intermediate layer, and a precision overlay for excellent fatigue strength and oil control. This structure maintains a stable oil film under extreme pressure, minimizing friction and wear across the rod journal even at high temperatures.
ACL’s proprietary RACE Series material delivers improved embeddability and resistance to seizure, allowing tighter clearances and consistent oil pressure throughout the rev range. The result is predictable, repeatable performance—ideal for engines running higher boost, aggressive timing, or frequent track use.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for BMW B46/B48 engines found in models like the 320i, 330i, X1, and X3, installation is straightforward with OEM-level geometry and sizing. No modifications, no compromises—just precise fitment and consistent performance under load.
In short, ACL Race bearings are a critical upgrade for builders who value reliability at the limits. They keep the rotating assembly stable, protect against oil film breakdown, and provide the durability margin every performance-focused B46/B48 build deserves.
FEATURES
- High-performance upgrade: Complete connecting rod bearing set from ACL, designed as a performance-grade replacement for BMW’s factory bearings.
- Engine-specific engineering: Developed to counter known rod bearing wear issues found in many modern BMW engines, including the B46 and B48 platforms.
- Precision factory fit: Manufactured to exact OEM tolerances for consistent oil clearance, stable operation, and long service life.
- Tri-metal composition: Built with a copper-lead tri-metal layer structure that provides superior strength, fatigue resistance, and heat stability.
- Enhanced bearing interface: Eliminates tin flash for improved bearing-to-housing contact, reducing distortion during high load and temperature cycles.
- High-load endurance: Purpose-built to maintain reliability in engines subjected to elevated RPM, boost pressure, and extended performance use.

PREPREG is a common term for a reinforcing fabric such carbon which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system. This resin system (typically epoxy) already includes the proper curing agent. As a result, the prepreg is ready to be laid into the mold without the addition of any more resin. In order for the laminate to cure, an autoclave production process is used, a combination of high pressure and heat.
- Maximum strength and performance characterictics. In a hand layup production process, it is difficult to achieve 50% fabric and 50% resin content. Typical hand laminates, even when vacuum bagged, end up with a significant amount of excess resin. Excess resin increases brittleness and reduces overall strength properties. On the other hand, most prepregs contain around 35% resin. This is ideal for maximum cured properties and generally impossible to achieve in normal hand lamination.
- Uniformity and repeatability. The prepreg is of uniform thickness and each part coming out of the mold may theoretically be the same. Vacuum bagging technology may have some errors in processing, but prepreg ensures production consistency.
- Reduce curing time. After the thermal curing cycle, no need to wait for the standard 48 hours can be fully cured.
- Aesthetics. Although prepreg processing still requires mold preparation and demoulding, prepreg processing eliminates air bubbles, makes it easier to obtain a smooth, glossy surface as well as eliminates any seaming lines.
